Introductions

We’re starting this week everyone!

I’ll post the title and author of our first story tomorrow, but first I want to just say “hi” and make sure everything is working here.

The plan is, I get to pick the first story, and we’ve got the next couple weeks to discuss it. Go ahead and send me an email (I can be reached at cyganeria.milika@gmail.com)   with your thoughts anytime in that week, I’ll post it as a blog and discussion can follow. That way, we can delve into different aspects and interpretations of the story without hijacking the comment thread. Sometime in the next week, I’ll draw the name of our next chooser, and whether he or she will be choosing a story or an essay. Anyone is welcome to join, just comment below with a brief introduction and I’ll put your name in the hat!

We are only reading short stories or short essays, because most of us don’t have time to add anything longer to our reading lists, but any topic is acceptable, providing it’s not obscene. We read every two weeks and encourage discussion throughout the reading process, you can also feel free to go back and comment on old topics!

To introduce myself, I’m Masha, I blog at Cyganeria and Piekno. The first is focused primarily on art, beauty, and faith; the second on my daily life in an off-the-gird yurt. I spend most of my time chasing after my daughter, drinking coffee, and fighting chaos. Who are you?

  1. Hi, everyone! I'm Laura. I don't blog, but I do like to run my mouth a lot. I also like coffee, dogs, learning about things, and cats.

  2. Hey- this is Seth, known to some as The Neglected Husband, also a non-blogger except by proxy. I share in the daughter-chasing duties and coffee-drinking, but tend to add to the chaos.

  3. Hi this is Loretta- I just entered modern motherhood and have lost my mind, marbles , and muchness. What I have not lost: my husband, 10 pounds of baby weight, and other things but cannot remember them! The end.

  4. I'm Jenna, and I spend my time taking care of home and husband and cat, reading and writing novels, blogging, gardening, and making music. Which of that counts as work and which as free time, I leave it to yourselves to determine. :)

  5. Hi, I'm Bob Tanaka and I currently blog at three places: Monstrus Dei (religion and politics), Catholicity of Taste (movies, books, etc.), and Vita Nova (my life). When I'm not blogging (which is most of the time), I work as an administrator for a car-parts company, read, write, and watch movies. I love fiction of all types, philosophy, theology, politics, and history.

  7. Howdy all. I'm Charles. I do web development; I do some writing and research about individualist anarchism, American social movements and related topics; I like black tea, kudzu formations, little streams, baking bread, picking wild blackberries, and making chapbooks. I'd do more gardening if I had more space, and I enjoy philosophy, the history of logic, the history of typography and punctuation, science fiction, fantasy, and spending time with my wife, talking about dogs, cats, learning about things, and a bunch of other stuff.

  8. Welcome everyone!! We still have a few people who SHOULD have commented, but haven't yet.. Hopefully they'll make an appearance soon!

Christie (and everyone else whose interested),
My plan is to post my thoughts for discussion tomorrow, if my thoughts will ruin the reading for anyone, just avoid reading it for a while, everyone is welcome to comment, and to e-mail their own comments for posting (as a seperate discussion post) anytime. Don't feel like you HAVE to send something to discuss, but feel free to send anything, or just to comment.

I think it will be easier to have multiple discussions going, and easier to give everyone a chance to have a say if they want to with this set up, but if it get's confusing, let me know, we'll work out something else. The goal is to make it as much an actual discussion as possible!

    Blessings all!

  9. So, I will probably mostly be a silent lurker, but guess it can't hurt let you all know I'm here. I'm Holly. I live in the south with my husband and three gorgeous boys, trying not to be overwhelmed by the male energy that surrounds. We like to keep life simple but there really is no way to contain the chaos, so I chose to embrace it. Still wondering who exactly I'll be when I grow up.
